Sofia studied textile design in England. She is a french american artist who enjoys creating many types of art, from simple photography to detailed drawings and paintings.
'My work involves lace, letters and stars combined. In this project I have brought in letters and envelopes that I have been collecting over the years to make my work more personal. I have also been working with lace because in the past I discovered that my drawings of lace pieces were often quite similar to star patterns. Together I find that these three themes have given mysterious and unique outcomes. My samples are divided into three groups which give an overall collection, each group is formed of different colours inspired by the sky along with my different themes. The night sky is my main focus in this collection as it is a subject that I find very intriguing, it is what brings my work together. I have been using a significant amount of devoré, foil and thermochromic pastes. Devoré paste eats up bits of the fabric therefore leaving holes in your sample. Foils reflect light off of the fabric. Thermochromic paste changes colour when it comes in contact with heat. These three materials are an important element to my work as they suggest that the night sky changes as time goes on and I find that it as well correlates with my theme of letters, which along with memories, come and go.'
